First Presbyterian Church is looking to host day care providers

Citing that there’s an abundance of space at First Presbyterian Church, located at 510 North Broadway in Crookston, Pastor Elise Pokel encourages new and seasoned child care providers who are looking for a place to house their business to take a tour of what the church has to offer. She hopes that interested parties will contact her and she will also connect them with resources through Tri-Valley Opportunity Council, Inc.

“Our congregation is small but mighty, and we thought what better way to address the community’s issues, like child care, than to take it into our own hands,” explained Pokel in an interview with the Times. “We can help people get the proper materials they need to get licensed, or, if they are already established and want to use someone else’s space, we can help with that, too.”

Pokel says there are grants available through Tri-Valley and any rent paid to the church would be “very reasonable.”

First Presbyterian has housed child care in their facility before, and, now, with a fresh inspection by the Crookston Fire Department, they’re ready to open their doors to new possibilities.

“We can help providers develop a business plan and might be able to accommodate more than one provider in our spacious facility,” Pokel continued. “It’s well-lit, we have a good-sized kitchen, a fellowship hall that could be used for activities, and much more.”

Pokel says the church is willing to update any spaces available for child care use, as well.

“We just need these rooms used and full of life,” she added.
