Deadline to complete, submit survey is Oct. 31

The search for a successor to retiring Crookston School District Superintendent Chris Bates will ramp up significantly over two days, Oct. 30-31, when the Minnesota School Boards Association consultants assisting the school board in the search process conducts several meetings with teachers and staff in the three public schools, and also a community forum/listening session.

The session open to anyone from the community who wants to attend and offer their thoughts on what they’d like to see in the next superintendent will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Golden Link Senior Citizens’ Center, in the north activity room.

Community members and school district teachers and staff have another avenue available to provide their thoughts as well, via an online survey compiled by the MSBA consultants and the school board. The survey is on the district district’s website, and the direct link is The survey is contained to a single webpage, but is fairly detailed and comprehensive in nature.

The deadline to complete the survey and submit it is the same day as the community forum, Oct. 31.

Bates will retire at the end of the current school year.

The board retained the services of the MSBA consultants to assist in the search, for a $7,400 feet. Sandy Gundlach from the MSBA spent almost three hours with the board at a special meeting late last week to lay out the entire search process, which seeks to have a superintendent hired by next March, give or take a couple weeks.
