The concrete floor in Crookston Sports Center’s Event Arena – ice for the upcoming hockey and skating season has not yet been made – was transformed Thursday by the addition of the multi-sports floor large enough for two full-length basketball courts.

The purchase, delivery and assembly of the portable floor/court was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting, conducted by Crookston Mayor Wayne Melbye.

After the ribbon-cutting, kids and adults hung around to shoot some hoops on both courts.

The floor can be disassembled and put back together, and can be utilized for numerous sports and games.

The initiative and fundraising, spearheaded by Jess Bengtson and Garrett Borowicz, received a massive boost when the Crookston Area Community Fund made it a “signature project” and contributed $62,100.

Other donations helped get stripes for multiple sports applied to the floor and covered painting and edging costs, and the Crookston Youth Basketball Association purchased four basketball standards.
