University of Minnesota Extension is aiming to increase Dementia awareness in Polk County.

A campaign to tackle the stigma and lack of understanding around dementia is underway with the support of the NW Regional Extension Office.

Danica Robson and Carol Bye from the Land of the Dancing Sky Area Agency on Aging are offering a ‘Dementia Friends’ Information Session on October 26 and are looking for local people to join in learning about dementia and helping people who are living with it in our community.

Dementia Friends is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way we think, talk and act about the disease. The Dementia Friends session helps you learn about dementia and the small ways you can help. From telling friends about the program to visiting someone you know living with dementia, every action counts.

Approximately 91,000 Minnesotans age 65+ are living with Alzheimer's.

Anyone interested in attending the Dementia Friends contact the Extension Regional Office in Crookston at 1-888-241-0781 or 281-8696 by October 20, to register. The session is free.
