Both incidents reported Saturday
No one was hurt late Saturday afternoon when a combine fire was reported in rural Crookston.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Crookston Fire Department got the call minutes before 4 p.m. in Section 11 of Andover Township, along Polk County Highway 14. At the scene, Bruce Erdmann, 58, and Bruce “Elliot” Erdmann, 34, attempting to extinguish the small fire inside the combine. Deputies assisted, and when Crookston firefighters subsequently arrived, they put the fire out. There were no injuries.
The John Deere S680 was being used in the field just prior to the fire, the cause of which was attributed to mechanical issues.
Beet truck crash
At approximately 10 a.m. Saturday, a collision involving a truck hauling sugar beets and a small SUV in Polk County resulted in an injury and a citation for failure to yield.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office received the call from the intersection of Polk County Highways 19 and 66. According to the PCSO, Gregory Lundin, 38, of Bemidji was driving a 2009 Mack beet truck and he failed to yield at the intersection, colliding with a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox driven westbound on #19 by Jade Rude, 65, of Thief River Falls. Rude was later transported by Altru Ambulance to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.
Both vehicles were severely damaged.
The Minnesota State Patrol and East Grand Forks Fire Department assisted at the scene.
