Bar damaged, customers hit with flying glass in early Sunday incident at The Loft

A Crookston man was arrested early Sunday for allegedly setting off a large firework in a downtown Grand Forks bar while it was full of people. Isaiah Ramirez, 20, has been preliminarily charged with offenses including endangering by fire or explosion and criminal mischief.

Officials say the firework caused moderate damage to the inside of the bar and several customers were hit with flying glass. An employee at the Loft Bar says Ramirez put the “explosive device” in a glass bottle causing shrapnel to “fly all over the bar.”

Grand Forks police say Ramirez may have had a motive, but would not release statements he made to officers.

Ramirez will appear in Grand Forks County Court Monday.

In 2016, Ramirez was convicted of a controlled substance charge in Grand Forks County as well as burglary in the third degree in Polk County.
