At approximately 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, Crookston firefighters were called to extinguish a Dodge Ram pickup that had caught fire near the intersection of Marshall Street and 3rd Avenue SE.

The fire started in the engine compartment, and the pickup was severely damaged. The pickup’s owner was able to safely escape.

Fire Chief Tim Froeber tells the Times that it’s his understanding that the man had just purchased the pickup in North Dakota and was driving it home to Wisconsin when it caught fire in Crookston.

He says the fire was caused by some sort of mechanical failure.
