The Addams Family production will be held this weekend, April 21, 23 and 24, at Crookston High School and it’s a MUST SEE. Parent’s night was held Wednesday in the CHS Auditorium and you can gauge how funny the play is by the fact that most adults were in tears.

In the story, the ghoulish Addams Family learns ‘Wednesday’, played by Jessica Willits, is secretly engaged to her new “normal” boyfriend Lucas, played by Blaine Asman. Soon, their families join for dinner and the rest of the plot unfolds.

Every single one of the main characters stood out with their acting and even made me laugh out loud. Fester, played by Callie Boucher, had the audience rolling as he attempts to act “normal” when the Addams’ and Lucas’ families meet. And they couldn’t have picked better people to play Lurch (Damian Hodgson) and Grandma (Michelle Cuno.) Their quirky characters made everyone appreciate the odd, but lovable family.

Gomez and Morticia (Zach Sanders and Megan Frisk) were their classic selves, always in love but in conflict, too.  Alice and Mal (Lucas’ parents), played by Brita Fagerlund and Justin Pieterszewski, were thrown into the Addams’ ways when the families met, but added their own normalcy to the mix. There was one scene where Wednesday shockingly comes out with a yellow dress on and Morticia belittles it, only to later find Alice is also wearing a yellow dress.

I can’t forget Pugsley Addams, played by George French. His easy going, but dark attitude added just the right amount of youth to the older and more serious characters. The scene where he is being “tortured” by his sister had his real parents, George and Rae French, burst out into laughter in their seats in the audience.

Everything on the table, I can’t wait to bring my family to this play. The student actors keep the audience engaged and the plot keeps them guessing what crazy thing is going to happen next. The humor is top notch and you couldn’t ask for a better spring production at CHS.
