Six Crookston High School students recently competed in the MSHSL Solo/Ensemble Contest in East Grand Forks.

This year's event was a very quick turn-around for these students, Band Instructor Chris Gough says, who arrived back from the Florida music trip the week prior.

“That being said, all of the students represented Crookston well,” he said.

CHS Junior Aleece Durbin received a “Best at Site” award for her performance on the alto saxophone.

Students participating in this year’s event included Kathryn Halos, Aleece Durbin, Gunnar Roed, Katelyn Wagner, Courtney Dalrymple, and Hannah Emanuel.

Also, five elementary band students from Crookston were recently selected to perform with the Minnesota Band Director's Association (MBDA) First and Second Year Honor Bands in Fergus Falls.

Students rehearsed all morning and presented a concert for the public afterward.

Students participating included sixth graders Caleb Mendez, Ethan Boll, and Zara Baig, and fifth graders David Threatt, and Emma Gunderson.

“Both of these events reflect the hard work Crookston band students are individually contributing to the program on a regular basis,” Gough said. “These students are choosing to take advantage of the many musical opportunities offered in Crookston.”
