He raises $2,165 to stay out of United Way ‘jail’ and now will bake pies.
Normally, people who are identified in the community to participate in the United Way of Crookston’s “Jail & Bail” fundraiser are asked to raise $100 in “bail” in order to stay out of the local United Way’s “jail.”
But, recently, Crookston Police Officer Don Rasicot, when approached about raising bail to keep him out of the clink, said he’d raise not $100, but $1,000.
That’s to a groundswell of support, Rasicot raised that, and then some. He told the Times Monday that he, so far, has raised $2,165 to help the local United Way get closer to its $160,000 fundraising goal for the 2016 campaign. Rasicot said he’s turned in the envelope containing the $2,165 to United Way Board member Nell DeBoer.
Rasicot isn’t alone in his efforts. A couple weeks ago, Drs. Steve and Lukas Biermaier at Biermaier Chiropractic Clinic in Crookston announced they are undertaking a father/son challenge to see who can raise the most for the United Way’s Jail & Bail fundraiser. Stop by their clinic to make your donation.
For Rasicot, a renowned baker, now comes the most fun part. He said when he launched his bail drive that he’d conduct a drawing among those who contributed at least $100 and became “$100 Platinum Bail Bondsmen.” Rasicot decided to pick two winners, and they are Craig and Melinda Larson, and Chris and Jacqueline Cournia. He will be hand-delivering a gift certificate to both couples, who will be able to pick the pie they want.
“Fortunately I am free and don’t have to spend any time behind bars,” Rasicot said. “All the credit goes to the businesses and citizens of Crookston.”
Rasicot wants to thank the contributors who helped keep him out of jail while boosting the United Way of Crookston. He’s still accepting donations at the CPD, too.
