New machines could tabulate all 82 precincts, versus older equipment that maxed out at 10, she says

Polk County Director of Property Records Michelle Cote says that this year’s election ballot count ran a little smoother thanks to a couple new machines they leased. Cote mentioned that the machines are unique because “they have the capacity to hold the tabulation information of all 82 precincts” versus their other tabulating machines that hold the information for 10 or less precincts.

“As part of the lease, I have the option to purchase them with a credit for the rent that was paid,” Cote explained. “By purchasing the machines at the discounted price, at the 4-year mark, the savings is in excess of $1,000.”

“At the 8-year mark, the savings is about $7,500,” she added.

The purchase was approved by the county board of commissioners Tuesday to buy (2) DS200s for $6,240 from Election Systems & Software, LLC of Omaha, Nebraska.

The county used the DS200 leased machines this year for processing of Absentee and Mail Ballots, and the precincts that have polling places continued to use the M100s.
