Crookston's 7th annual National Night Out hosted its first watermelon eating contest for kids age 16 and younger Tuesday at Central Park. The event drew 50 contestants -- and even more cheering supporters -- who scarfed slices of watermelon down to the whites to see who could do it in the shortest time. The final round, with top finishers from the previous rounds competing, secured Logan Bedard's reign for the next year as the grand champion. His prize was an mp3 player, although prizes were awarded to other placers as well.
