The Crookston Rotary Club is hoping to repeat – or even surpass – the success of last year's inaugural “Fill the Bus” campaign for the upcoming school year.
“We collected a lot of school supplies as well as monetary donations to purchase them last year,” said Mary Cavalier, chair of the Rotary's education committee. “The Crookston community has been very generous in giving to this project that helps our children in the elementary schools.”
From now until the first day of school for students, Sept. 9, new school supplies – anything kids can use in school such as backpacks, pencil cases, notebooks, lunch boxes, writing instruments, folders, calculators, paper and erasers, to name a few – will be accepted in drop boxes at the following locations: Crookston National Bank, Farmer's Insurance, The Real Estate Place, Four Seasons Clothing and JJ's Body Shop. Rotarians will also be collecting supplies in Central Park during Ox Cart Days weekend and in the Ox Cart Days Parade. For those wishing to donate money, collection buckets will be set up at several local businesses during this time, or you can contact any Crookston Rotary member.
Following the collection period, Cavalier said the supplies will be proportionately distributed to all elementary schools, including parochial, in Crookston. They will then be made available for children who, for one reason or another, need them.
