The Cathedral School held its own, independent and local spelling bee for 5th and 6th graders on Wednesday, March 3.  The format is nearly identical to the national competition, but organized on a local level.

Earlier in the week, all 5th and 6th grade students at the Cathedral took a written spelling test, as a first round of competition.  On Wednesday, the twelve finalists, six from each grade level, competed in an oral round.  The students had worked hard with their words and had done well.  In the end, three students remained.  Haley Roed, 6th Grade, won 3rd place.  Fifth grader Charles Eickhof earned 2nd place.  And the Cathedral School Spelling Bee Champion of 2010 was fifth grader Morgan Kresl.  The three finalists won a Little Joe pizza, a medium pizza, and a large pizza, respectively, courtesy of the generous sponsorship and support of Happy Joe’s Pizza.
