As it has for years, a brilliant fireworks display capped off Ox Cart Days 2010, but this year’s festival had even more fireworks earlier in the evening, when CHS senior Kyle Erdman, whose lucky ticket was drawn to play the game, took home the big prize of $500 from Crookston’s version of Deal or No Deal. Out of 14 Happy Joe’s Pizza boxes held by beauties associated with Miss Crookston, Erdman selected Jaclyn Proulx’s to be his. He played it to the end, turning down increasingly more appealing offers as he whittled away at the smaller amounts. With only Miss Crookston Michelle Stahlecker and Proulx left holding $350 and $500 onstage, he turned down the banker’s final offer of $400, which proved to be an excellent choice. This is the first time the highest amount was won in the game.
In the lip sync contest, which had three entries, Sue Meyer reprised her hilarious version of Patsy Cline's "She's Got You," which she’d performed the week before in Crookston Community Theatre’s production “Night at the Cabaret,” to a first place finish. Aryanna Ostgaard, with assistance from her sister, Cyrina, came in second with "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus. Heidi Swanson performed "It Happens" by Sugarland, garnering third. The prizes were $125, $75 and $25 in Chamber Bucks.
The fireworks finale, put on by Tony Ramberg and Premiere Pyrotechnics, brought this year’s Ox Cart Days to a close.
