Coming off a thrilling 1-0 road win over Thief River Falls Thursday, the Pirates hosted Superior, Wisc. Friday at the Crookston Sports Center. The Spartans tallied two goals late in the first period but the Crookston managed a goal in each of the second and third periods to send the game into the overtime where it finished as a 2-2 tie.
Crookston is now 6-14-3 on the season, while Superior is 11-8.
Superior’s Mitch Kontny scored the opening goal with 3:57 remaining in the first period on the power play. Kellen McCoshen made it 2-0 a little more than a minute later with another power play goal.
Alex Edevold brought Crookston within one goal with a little less than two minutes remaining in the second period with his second goal of the season. Mark Bittner and Zach Mercil assisted on the play.
Just 56 seconds into the third period, Bittner tied up the game with his third goal of the season with Nick Regeimbal assisting.
Nick Biermaier stopped 20 shots, including nine in the second period. Joel Pettingill turned away 14 shots while in net for the Spartans.
The Pirates will try and extend their unbeaten streak to three games Tuesday when they travel to Park Rapids.
