U of M, Crookston defeated Northern State for just the second time ever Saturday 88-73 in Crookston. The Golden Eagles lost Friday's game 76-52 to Mary.

Minnesota, Crookston, winners of two of their last three games, is now 7-13 overall and 3-13 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Senior Akeem Cubie led the Golden Eagles with 17 points on Friday and a double-double, 24 points and ten rebounds, on Saturday.

In Saturday's win the Golden Eagles posted their highest field goal percentage and most points against an NSIC opponent this season. They also recorded a season-high eight three pointers, 24 free throws and 32 free throw attempts.

Mary vs. UMC
Backing up Cubie's 17 points was senior Jacolby Anderson with 11 points and four assists, senior Broderick Schmidt with nine points and nine rebounds and senior Almir Krdzalic with seven assists.

Damon Smith led the Marauders with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

With the Golden Eagles leading 16-14 with about 11 minutes left in the first half, the Marauders went on an 11-2 run over about a four-minute stretch to go up 25-18. Mary would go into halftime up 35-27.

Early in the second half, Minnesota, Crookston cut the deficit down to three with a 7-0 run, but Mary responded with a 7-0 run of its own to take back its ten-point lead with 14:27 left.

The Marauders continued to pull away for the rest of the second half, leading by as much as 24 at one point.

Minnesota, Crookston shot 37.5 percent (21-56) from the field and was 29.4 percent (5-17) from beyond the arc. Mary shot 52.6 percent (30-57) from the field and had a 38.9 (7-18) three-point field goal percentage.

Northern State vs. UMC
Adding to Cubie's huge double-double was Anderson with 21 points, Alan Sharp with 15 points and four assists and junior Justin Rake with 12 points.

Collin Pryor led the Wolves with 19 points an seven rebounds, while Alex Thomas added 16 points and six rebounds.

The teams were only separated by two turnovers with Northern State coughing it up 17 times and Minnesota, Crookston turning it over 15 times. However, UMC outscored the Wolves 27-9 in points off turnovers.

An Anderson three four minutes into the opening tip put the Golden Eagles up 11-5.

Northern State then trimmed the deficit to four before Minnesota, Crookston pulled away with a 15-3 run over a seven and a half minute span, which was capped by another Anderson three to make it 26-10 with 7:31 left in the first half.

Northern State managed to trim the deficit to just three by the half by outscoring Minnesota, Crookston 18-5 in the final seven minutes, 30 seconds.

A basket by Pryor to open the second half cut the deficit to just one point but that is as close as the Wolves would come. The Golden Eagles quickly responded with a 16-4 over five minutes to take a commanding 47-34 lead with 14 minutes left.

Minnesota, Crookston shot 54.9 percent (28-51) from the field and a stellar 61.5 percent (8-13) from beyond the arc. Northern State shot 42 percent (21-50) from the field, inclduing 25 percent (5-20) from three-point land.

The Golden Eagles will go on the road next weekend with games against Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth.
