The competition was stiff, with a record 13 Crookston High School seniors vying for the title of Mr. CHS 2012, but in the end Kody Kawlewski was belted by last year's winner, Anthony Caputo, at the 14th annual Mr. CHS Pageant held Sunday afternoon in the CHS auditorium.
Brandon Johnson won the talent portion of the competition for his guitar/vocal performance. Aaron Remick took the formal wear prize with his snazzy black and silver tuxedo. Joseph Hollcraft won the question and answer session, in which he randomly picked the question, "If you were a rap star what would be your name and why?" He replied that he would keep his given name because that suits him. Logan Lopez was third runner-up, Brian Gonzales second runner-up and Hollcraft first runner-up.
Other contestants were Adam Donarski, Kollin Erdman, Abe Guerrero, Beau Melbye, Jake Perrine, Devin Salveson and Randy Shafer.
Dave Davidson was master of ceremonies, with Kelsey Kaml serving as the producer of the show. CHS teachers Tim Moe, Gary Stegman and Ally Warren served as judges, with Youth Services Coordinator Linda Morgan tabulating the scores. Prizes awarded to contestants include cash, flowers, pizzas, portrait package, gift certificates and other items courtesy of several local businesses.
Snow Fest
The Mr. CHS competition is traditionally the kick-off for CHS's Snow Fest. Snow Fest royalty, voted on by students, were announced during the pageant. Ninth through 11th graders are prince and princesses, with the seniors crowned king and queen:
Freshmen – Ben Dorman and Madison Crane
Sophomores – Brandon Conklin and Kennedy Resendiz
Juniors – Brandon Kresl and Whitney Smith
Seniors – Logan Lopez and Rachel Biermaier
Throughout the week, students have the opportunity to dress according to the theme of the day: Monday is 70s-Hippie Day, Tuesday is Stoplight Day, Wednesday Pajama Day, Thursday Twin Day and Friday Blackout Day. On Friday afternoon, there will be a pep fest, following by activities for students. The week culminates in the Snow Fest Dance for grades 9-12 on Saturday evening, beginning at 9 p.m. Admission is $5.
