It's been a few years since a variety show has taken place on a Crookston stage, especially in a cabaret (nightclub) setting. So people are in for a treat when Crookston Community Theater presents “A Night at the Cabaret” Aug. 10 and 11, at the Eagles Hall. Tickets for both nights are sold out.
Gaye Wick and Sandy Perkins are co-directors of the show, in which they also perform. Perkins primarily coordinates the musical side while Wick deals with the rest. As Wick explained, people auditioning were asked to perform something they always wanted to do.
“I then wrote the show around their talents,” she said. “Things were added so it flows from one scene to the next. Very few props and costumes are used; this focuses more on the performers.”
The line-up consists of 27 vignettes featuring comedic skits, musical numbers, dances and a lip sync performance. Three group numbers feature the song “Cabaret” as well as a medley of songs from musicals CCT has done in the past.
Performers/cast members include: Emcee Ray Frydenlund, Joyce Johnson, Beth Carlson, Phyllis Hagen, Jordan Hasbrouck, Anders Berggren, Max LaCoursiere, Liz Thompson, George French, Rob Lutz, Zach Lutz, Maddy Perkins, Bailey Bradford, Zach Sanders, Brian Myer, Caitlin Crane, Madison Crane, Cyrina Ostgaard, Lynne Mullins, Sue Meyer, Julie Sprague, Ruth Sanders and Jan Opgrand. Mary Jane Kurpius-Brock is the accompanist. Steve Krueger and Jacob Lutz are on sound and lights.
