The Pirate girls' tennis doubles team of Bailey Morris and Lilli Denison will make their debut at the Class A State Doubles Tournament Thursday, Oct. 27 against junior Sarah Hays and Gina Nguyen of St. Paul Academy. The first serve is set for 10 a.m. at Read Sweatt Family Tennis Center.
Morris and Denison advanced to the state tournament after upsetting the top seeded doubles team in Section 8A, Allie Girtz and Bonnie Baumgartner of Park Rapids, on Saturday, Oct. 15 in Grand Forks.

Derek Martin was born in Crookston, graduated from Crookston High School in 2003 and attended Gustavus Adolphus College before joining the Times. He now lives in Crookston with his wife and children.
