Oct. 8, 2013, that was the last time the Pirate volleyball team won a match. After an 0-21 mark last season, the Pirates snapped a 27-match losing streak Thursday in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-8, 25-17) victory over Mahnomen in Crookston.
Senior Amber Froeber posted eight kills and 20 digs, while senior Kenzie Klatt recorded 16 assists and seven aces. Senior Shelby Solheim had six kills. Senior Abby Parr put up 20 digs. Sophomore Macy Strem had three aces and two assists.
Mahnomen was led by five kills from both Justine Haugo and Mackaylee Swanson. Abby Johnson had seven assists, while Ashley Johnson have six.
The Pirates, now 1-1 on the season, will look to start a winning streak when they take on Red Lake Falls Tuesday, Sept. 2 in Red Lake Falls, Minn. Crookston then faces Sacred Heart on Thursday, Sept. 4 in East Grand Forks, Minn.
