  • A Fitchburg police lieutenant says charges are likely early this week against a recently retired Dane County sheriff's deputy accused of fatally shooting his wife and sister-in-law.
Lt. Todd Stetzer says Andy Steele is being treated at a hospital for injuries consistent with a suicide attempt. Fitchburg police say Steele is suspected of killing 39-year-old Ashlee Steele and 38-year-old Kacee Tollesfsbol, of Lake Elmo, Minn. on Friday.
The State Journal reports Fitchburg police say the women were found shot in the Steele home.
The 39-year-old deputy took a medical retirement this summer. In June, he was diagnosed with ALS. Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney says Steele's former colleagues are trying to "make sense out of nonsense" in dealing with the deaths.
