  • A school superintendent in one of North Dakota's new and fastest growing districts has decided to quit a week before classes are slated to begin.
Fran Swensgard handed in her resignation letter Monday as superintendent of schools at the New Public School District No. 8, located in the heart of the oil patch.
The Williston Herald reports that Swensgard's letter to the board did not give a reason for her departure or a resignation date, but the board said it was effective immediately.
Board president Dave Rockstad says it's not a good time for the resignation, but there are qualified people who can handle it. The board will ask school principals to pick up the slack on day-to-day operations.
The school district serves the surrounding rural area around Williston.
