He was first elected to council back in 1988

At the first Crookston City Council meeting in January of 2015, a new mayor will be sworn in.

That became a sure thing after Crookston Mayor Dave Genereux announced at the conclusion of Monday evening’s Crookston City Council meeting that he will not seek a third term in the November 2014 election.

Genereux’s tenure as an elected city official dates back to when Crookston was divided into eight wards instead of six. He was first elected as council member from the eighth ward in 1988. Later, when the number of wards was whittled to six and two at-large council member seats were added, Genereux was elected to one of those seats.

He was elected mayor in the November 2006 election and was re-elected four years later.

Genereux, a University of Minnesota, Crookston alum who grew up in Terrebonne, Minn., is a senior crop consultant with Centrol, Inc., starting with the company in 1983.
