  •     "It's going as good as can be expected," said Public Works director Pat Kelly about the open burn site north of American Crystal Sugar near the city lagoons. "Our guys are working hard."
The burn site was opened last week after an E-F2 tornado masked by heavy winds and rain made its way through Crookston leaving a large path of damage in many neighborhoods. The city has had a continuous line of trucks hauling downed trees, limbs and branches to the site since Tuesday. Residents are even joining in to take care of the debris themselves.
"We've had quite a few people out there," explained Kelly. "This Saturday, the operator said he got in at nine and there was already a line."
Kelly said he imagines the burn site might stay open into next week as there is still a lot of debris to be cleaned up.
"We are still going through neighborhoods," said Kelly. "This week we're going to sweep through Carmen again, into Washington Estates, Jerome's Addition and more."
The burn site is open this week Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
