One bid received for Transfer Station project, none submitted for Highway Department work
Polk County Facilities Management Director Mark Dietz this week detailed for the Board of Commissioners the lone bid of $78,475 for the Polk County Transfer Station roof replacement project.
"We only received one bid for the transfer station and no bids for the Highway Department," explained Dietz. "Scott from Architectural Resources will have a 'one-on-one' with area contractors and hopefully re-open bids for the Highway Department. With the construction season being this far along and the weather not being so nice it's tough to get them to want to bid on the job."
Granite City of St. Cloud was the lone bidder for the Transfer Station roof replacement project, but Dietz says that doesn't include the wall and structure issues that also need to be fixed.
"The bid was $10,000 higher than we expected, but they are willing to get it done soon," said Dietz.
District 5 Commissioner Don Diedrich asked, "While they're here, why don't they do the Highway Department roof, too?"
Dietz said the company did not want to put a bid in on that project.
Before voting, District 2 Commissioner Warren Strandell said, "We are little reluctant to approve this," citing the higher bid amount.
While the project was approved, District 4 Commissioner Warren Affeldt voted against.
