  • A Dickinson judge has ruled to throw out some police interviews with the former Dickinson principal accused of setting fire to his school.

Southwest District Judge William Herauf says Thomas Sander was not read his rights prior to part of a police interrogation and that some of his statements were coerced. KXMB-TV reports Herauf made his decision Tuesday after watching recorded interviews of the interrogation and hearing from both investigators.

Sander, 30, is accused of starting a fire that destroyed Trinity High School on March 3 and endangering the life of a teacher who lived in an apartment at the school. Sander has pleaded not guilty to arson and endangering by fire.

Herauf also says that investigators told Sander he was not free to leave twice, when he was.
