  •     The summer carousel of school district staff continues to turn, as the Crookston School Board is poised at a special meeting Monday, June 30, to hire three teachers. But a last-minute agenda addition comes in the form of the resignation of Kim Johnson, special services director.
A "heart-broken" Superintendent Chris Bates emailed board members the news of Johnson's resignation Thursday afternoon. Johnson, hired a couple years ago from Thief River Falls, has taken a job in Thief River, Bates said.
As for the trio of teachers to be hired, one of them is Crookston High School alum Sarah Kanten, who will fill one of the two available second grade positions. Kanten, the daughter of Erik and Judy Kanten, studied Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education at Minnesota State University - Moorhead and currently lives in Lakewood, Colorado.
Filling the other second grade position will be Rachel Hurner, and Moses Oteh is on the agenda to be hired as a special education teacher at the high school.
The meeting will take place in the school district office conference room at CHS, beginning at 7:45 a.m.
