  • Richard Allen “Rick” Danielson, 55, of Crookston, MN, passed away peacefully at his home Monday afternoon, June 16, 2014, while surrounded by his loving family. Rick had been bravely battling ALS since long before being officially diagnosed in September of 2012.
Rick was born in Minneapolis, MN on March 23 1959, and was raised by his parents, Conrad and Edith Danielson, on the family farm near Euclid, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Euclid, and graduated from Crookston Central High School in 1977. Rick farmed with his father in Fanny Township, and on April 9, 1983 was united in marriage to Karen Montreuil at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston. Rick and Karen made their home in Crookston and over the next several years welcomed into their lives daughter, Kari, and son, Ryan. Rick left farming in 1997 and for several years was employed in construction while also trucking for M Bar D. After his ALS diagnosis Rick had to retire from those jobs and began farming for Tiedemann Farms at Euclid. Throughout the farming season of 2013 he worked every day doing what he loved most, getting the crop through from spring planting to harvest. By November he was getting so weak that he had to settle for going to the farm and watching what was going on. To his last breath his passion was for farming, and the fighter in him meant never giving up the hope of getting right back out there. Sadly, it was not meant to be on this earth, but faith helps his family believe he is out in the fields of heaven right now.
Rick and Karen were longtime members of the Trinity Lutheran Church. While growing up he was introduced to snowmobiling by his mom and dad. His enjoyment for the sport lasted well into his life, and he was a member of the ‘Gentilly Snowriders’ for several years. He had a kindly nature and would be the first to lend a helping hand when needed. Rick’s life was a treasure to his family, and as a husband, dad, grandpa, son, brother, uncle, and friend, he was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
Rick is survived by Karen, his loving wife of 31 years; their daughter, Kari Danielson (Eric Gudmundson) and their 2 children, Devin and Keira of Euclid, MN; their son, Ryan Danielson, living on the family farm near Euclid; and his mother, Edie Danielson, on the farm near Euclid as well. He also leaves a brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Bev Danielson of East Grand Forks, MN; a sister, DeLila Danielson of Minneapolis, MN; his mother-in-law, Arlene Montreuil of Crookston; a sister-in-law, Diane Dale of Andover, MN; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Conrad, who died in 1993; his father-in-law, Ernest Montreuil, who died in 2010; and a brother-in-law, Keith Montreuil, who died in 1999. May God bless Rick’s memory.
