  • Pirate senior Brady Heppner shot an 88 at the second round of the State AA Golf Tournament Wednesday, while eighth grader Ally Tiedemann posted a 98 at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, Minn.
Heppner was one under after three holes thanks to a birdie on the par three 11th. He hit a rough stretch, though, playing the next four holes eight over. He recorded a 43 on his first nine and struggled on his second nine with three double bogeys.
Tiedemann was steady on her front nine expect for one hole where she posted a 10 on the par four 14th. She carded a 49 and struggled on her second nine with another 49.
“Ally started out OK, not like the round before,” said Pirate head coach Jeff Perreault. “Those same two holes she played two under the day before. On 14 she hit a nice tee sho but her second went out of bounds and from there it snowballed on her and she went OB again and got a 10 on that hole. That's golf. You have holes like that and it's mentally challenging. She came back on 15 and parred the par three. Ally looked like she was a little tired, more mentally than anything. She was not hitting the ball cleanly and the putter was not quite there. But she battled through it and I give her credit for an eighth grader. Most kids would have melted down. That’s the type of kid Ally is. She'll use that round as motivation. Most of the scores went up day two. It’s three days of being away from home and two days walking, it takes a toll.”
