  • Second-place finish sends CHS Envirothon team to state

  •     Local high schools students demonstrated their knowledge of Minnesota’s natural resources at the annual Area Envirothon, Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Rydell and Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuge near Erskine.     
        This is a four-county-wide event with teams from East and West Polk County, Mahnomen County, Red Lake County and Norman County.  
        This year there was a total of 27 teams.  The top three teams advancing to the state Envirothon are Mahnomen (1st place), Crookston (2nd place) and Norman County West (3rd place).   
        The Minnesota State Envirothon will be held on Monday, May 19 at St. John’s University Arboretum in Collegeville, Minn.     
        The Envirothon consists of six learning stations covering soils, aquatics, wildlife, forestry, current event with an oral presentation on this year’s topic.
