  • Two sixth grade teams from Highland School participated in a Math Masters competition in Bemidji recently.
    The team of Walker Winjum, Katherine Geist, Joey Doda, Ben Brantner, and Emily Gillette took first place overall. Ben Brantner placed second in the individual competition while Walker Winjum placed fourth. Emily Gillette placed tenth in the fact drill.
    The teams coached by Barb Chapman practiced solving problems once a week since late November. The Math Masters of Minnesota competition started in 1995 and is designed to promote excellence in thinking skills pertaining to mathematics. Students compete as individuals and as a team.
