  • Boys' tennis: Pirates peel Spuds 4-3

  • The Pirate boys' tennis team avenged a 4-3 loss to Moorhead in Crookston a week ago with a 4-3 win Tuesday in Moorhead, Minn. against the Spuds.
    Freshman Matt Garmen pulled out a tight straight-set win at third singles and the Pirates swept the doubles matches with a three-set win at third doubles.
    Sophomores Jordan Bengtson and Elijah Phaiah dropped the first set at third doubles but rebounded to take the next two convincingly. Seniors A.J. Biermaier and Kal Salentiny won easily at first doubles, while Senior Adam Erickson and sophomore Jacob Roesch dominated at second doubles.
    The Pirates improve to 6-10 on the season and host Bemidji Monday, May 12 at 4 p.m. The regular season concludes Tuesday, May 13 at home with duals against Park Rapids and East Grand Forks.
