Eighth grader Ally Tiedemann and freshman Maddie Nicholls led the Pirates, each posting scores of 90. They finished in a four-way tie for first.

The Pirate girls' golf team finally kicked off their season Tuesday, placing first at the Pre-Subsection 8AA North Meet in Fertile, Minn. at Sandhill River Golf Course.

"The most exciting part of this meet was the location. The Pirates will host the Subsection 8AA North Meet in Fertile on May 27," Pirate head coach Jeff Perreault said. "Hopefully we continue to improve and bring all the positives into that meet at the end of the month!"

Eighth grader Ally Tiedemann and freshman Maddie Nicholls led the Pirates, each posting scores of 90. They finished in a four-way tie for first.

"After spending much of this season indoors it was great to finally get out and post our first team score of the year," coach Perreault said. "Having Maddie Nicholls and Ally Tiedemann on the verge of breaking into the 80's this early is very exciting."

Rounding out Crookston's team score was junior Abby Parr with a 100 and sophomore Emily Ricord with a 107. Senior Amber Trostad carded a 133 and senior Stephanie Flateland shot a 135.

"Abby Parr tied her career best by firing a 100," Perreault said. "This is the year she will post her first score in the 90's! Emily Ricord shot a career best 107 and showed signs of a promising varsity season."

The other Crookston team competing placed sixth, led by a 125 from eighth grader Nissa Brekken.

The Pirates are set to host the Pirate Invitational Thursday at Minakwa Golf Course, beginning at 9:30 a.m. On Friday, the Pirates will compete in the Roseau Invitational at Oak Crest Golf Course.
