  • The Pirate softball team fell 14-4 to Grand Forks Central Monday in Grand Forks, N.D. The Central Knights racked up nine runs in the fourth inning to run away with the game. Crookston committed four errors.
    The Pirates led 3-2 after two innings and were knotted at 4-4 entering the fourth when Central exploded.
    Junior Danica Brekken was 2-of-3 at the plate with two doubles and two RBI. Freshman Brooke Cymbaluk also had two hits and scored two runs.
    Jessica Marynik led Central by going 4-of-4 at the plate with two runs and three RBI.
    Alyssa Black, who also had two hits in the game, pitched all five innings for Central. She allowed four earned runs on six hits and three walks.
    Brekken pitched all 4 1/3 innings for Crookston, allowing 13 earned runs on 12 hits and five walks.
    The Pirates hope to rebound today when they are scheduled to host Red Lake Falls at 5 p.m.
