  • Every quarterback in the NFL Draft has questions. There is no prototypical, Manning-like passer that was bred to be a quarterback. Teddy Bridgewater has small hands and isn't the most durable, Blake Bortles is big but doesn't have a big arm, Manziel is small and likes to party.
Then you get down to the second tier of quarterbacks and the question marks grow. Jimmy Garoppolo is slow and doesn't have a great arm, Tom Savage has a big arm but everything else is average, A.J. McCarron doesn't do anything really great but he finds a way to win, Derek Carr has small hands but a nice arm and had good numbers.
The Vikings need to identify a quarterback of the future and get him at any cost. Well, almost any cost.
But letting another team draft Manziel because the Vikings don't want to pay the price to move up three spots would be ridiculous.
How much is Peyton Manning worth? How much would you give up to get Drew Brees? Those types of elite quarterbacks are priceless and if the Vikings identify Manziel as a franchise passer then you have to do what it takes to get him.
The draft begins Thursday and so does the Times' NFL Draft Contest. Pick the first 10 selections. You get one point for a correct first pick, 10 points for a correct 10th pick, two points for a correct second pick, nine points for a correct ninth pick. You get the idea.
With the wheeling and dealing, attaching teams to each pick isn't necessary. If you think the Vikings will move up to six to take Bortles then just put Bortles as your sixth pick.
The person with the most points wins a three month subscription to the Times. A coin flip will break a tie. Just email your picks to dmartin@crookstontimes.com.
