  • Letter to the Editor: Leave our publicly owned park alone

  • Make no mistake, my friend, this is not a cute little campground nestled in the beautiful oaks at Castle Park. This is a commercial development that plans to cram 70 to 100 RV slots into an area of 2.5 acres.

  •     Make no mistake, my friend, this is not a cute little campground nestled in the beautiful oaks at Castle Park. This is a commercial development that plans to cram 70 to 100 RV slots into an area of 2.5 acres.
This is a project that will take away citizen-owned land that we, the tax-paying public, currently use for recreation, and give it to a developer.
Castle Park is the location for the natural play area and dog park and has been discussed as a possible spot for a splash park. Many, many volunteer hours have been put in by Crookston citizens to develop this wonderful place.
While other cities are trying to create more green space for recreation, we are considering giving ours up!
If you have the time, take a drive by Castle Park and try to envision 70 to 100 RVs jammed in there, plus the vehicles that go along with the fifth-wheel trailers.
This will not be attractive to a family that just wants to camp for a couple of nights during a hockey tournament this summer, or while in town for a family reunion.
If you truly want to make an RV park, find a good spot along a highway or main thoroughfare with easy in and out access.
Leave our publicly owned park alone!
