  • Prep baseball: Errors plague Pirates, swept by Rams

  • The Pirate baseball team was swept Tuesday by the Roseau Rams in Crookston with Roseau winning game one 8-4 and Jacob Eaton tossed a five-inning no-hitter for Roseau in a 10-0 win in game two.
    The Pirates committed 13 errors in the games.
    In game one, Roseau chased Pirate starter Aaron Hollcraft after three innings and four runs, one earned. Joey Koenig came in to pitch and held the Rams scoreless until Crookston got on the board with four runs in the sixth inning, tying the game.
    Roseau responded with a four-run seventh inning, though, and held on for the win.
    Aaron Krahn pitched four scoreless innings for Roseau, striking out six and allowing six hits. Ethan Hites got the win with three innings pitched and two earned runs, four total, on two hits and two walks.
    Koenig was 2-of-4 at the plate with a double, while Ryan Porter was also 2-of-4. Parker Epema and Cody Magsam each had doubles and an RBI.
    Alex Halstengard led Roseau at the plate, going 3-of-4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Ryan Norberg was also 3-of-4.
    In game two, Eaton struck out 10 and walked three in the no-hitter.
    Epema started and pitched three innings, allowing three earned runs, five total. Cody Wardner pitched two innings in relief, allowing one earned run, five total.
    Krahn led the Rams at the plate with two hits, including a double, and two runs scored. Halstengard and Noah Pavek each scored two runs.
    Crookston falls to 0-4 on the season and will host Grand Forks Central Friday at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Crookston will host Blackduck at 5 p.m.
