  • The Pirate boys' tennis team was nipped by Moorhead 4-3 Tuesday on a windy and chilly day in Crookston.
Of all the games played in the seven matches Tuesday Moorhead won 67 and Crookston got 65. That's how tight it was.
The Spuds won three of the four singles matches with Pirate freshman Matt Garmen winning at third singles. Crookston won two of the three doubles matches with Moorhead taking the third doubles match in three very tight sets.
The Pirates fall to 4-9 on the season and will host the Northwest Quadrangular Thursday with Bemidji, Thief River Falls and East Grand Forks competing.
