17-foot crest projected

The Red Lake River continues to rise as the spring thaw continues, and on Wednesday a lot of the ice on the surface broke up and started to flow down the channel.

At press time Thursday, the river was at 14.69 feet, close to the 15 foot flood stage, which doesn’t take the presence of any levees into consideration.

National Weather Service hydrologists are projecting the river in Crookston will crest at 17 feet late Friday into Saturday before starting to recede.
