  •     For Gov. Mark Dayton to ask the medical and law enforcement communities for their opinion on marijuana use, is like asking the prison industry how it feels about shorter sentencing for offenders.
With $1 billion of public funds needed annually simply to keep pot users in prisons, while the greatest percentage of drug abusers use physician-prescribed medications, which “joint” is the real “drag” on America?
With only 5 percent of the world’s population, the United States has 20 percent of the world’s prison population.
Crime does indeed pay, but the real beneficiaries are very often not the criminal.
