  • A sixth-grader in western North Dakota is being honored for saving a fellow schoolmate's life.
Eden Bartz, of Taylor, jumped into action when she saw a first-grader in the school lunchroom begin to choke.
Eden tells the Bismarck Tribune that she was never taught the Heimlich maneuver. But she committed to memory a story she once heard about how her mom performed the procedure. Eden says she did the same.
The North Dakota Peace Officers Association will honor her in April with its Lifesaver's Award. A Dickinson police detective says she'll be the youngest recipient in recent memory.
