  •     Two weeks after asking CHS Spanish teacher Kathy Twite to offer more details on a student trip abroad she's planning for next spring, the Crookston School Board on Monday approved the trip.
Board members a couple weeks ago wanted to have at least a rough idea of how many students enrolled in Spanish II or more advanced courses might go on the 10-day trip in March 2015 to Paris, Barcelona and Madrid. Twite has since surveyed her students and made a school-wide announcement, which spurred 68 students to express their interest. More than likely, by the time it's time to officially say they're going and start fund-raising, Twite figures around 20 Spanish students will sign up.
The trip, coordinated by Education First Travel, which Twite has worked with extensively in the past while she taught at Sacred Heart in East Grand Forks, will go from March 21 to 31. Twite said that schedule will not conflict with the high school basketball season.
Now that the board has given the go-ahead, Twite plans to move quickly. She's planning a parent/student meeting as soon as possible, and will close registration on March 31. Numerous fund-raisers will be held in the coming months, and Twite said she will make sure the students' efforts don't "step on the toes" of any other fund-raising efforts.
The estimated per-student cost is $2,900.
