Crookston Young Child Collaboration expands the ‘Month of the Young Child’ into a three-month celebration

Crookston will “Celebrate the Young Child” this spring at a trio of family events.

Formerly known as the “Month of the Young Child,”  the Celebrate the Young Child Collaboration has expanded the celebration and is offering  events in March, April and May instead only in April. The events are planned by the CYC Collaboration and sponsored by Crookston Early Childhood Initiative, RiverView Health and Hugo’s.

    • The kickoff event will “Spring into Action at the Family Festival” on Thursday, March 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Crookston High School gym and commons. Approximately 18 stations will be available featuring Red River Valley Gymnastics, which will have an apparatus and mats set up for children to learn stunts and tumbling. Other stations include balls, hoops and slides, an obstacle course, target throw, jump rope,  tinikling, scooter games, parachute, large blocks, springy crafts, and the Cupid Shuffle dance time. Health and information booths and a healthy meal will also be available for families to enjoy.

    • “Rescue Heroes Spring into Action” at the second family event on Tuesday, April 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Crookston Library. Children will be able to be up close and personal with a firefighter, police officer, doctor, mounted posse and an ambulance responder, as well as see their rescue vehicles in the library parking lot.   Other activities inside the library will be Balloon-Action, springy crafts,  Obstacle-Action,  Imagin-Action, and other “springy” surprises.

    • The “Teddy Bear Band Springs into Action” at Castle Park on Thursday, May 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  A free picnic in the park and fun nature trails to explore at Castle, as well as the famous “Teddy Bear Band” will make this final “Celebrate the Young Child” event a fantastic ending to the “Spring into Action” celebration.

The CYC Collaborative invites the community to join in the excitement and “Spring into Action” by attending these three family events.
