Oseth had been head coach of the Golden Eagles since 2002.
The University of Minnesota Crookston announced Monday that Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jeff Oseth’s contract will not be renewed.
The search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
Oseth was one of the longest tenured head coaches in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in 12 seasons at the helm of UMC men's basketball. His record in his time as head coach was 59-242.
"We sincerely appreciate the commitment, effort, and loyalty Coach Oseth has brought to the Golden Eagle men’s basketball program as well as to the entire campus during his tenure," said UMC Athletic Director Stephanie Helgeson. "That said, we believe it’s time to take the program in a new direction. Jeff certainly helped us during the transition to membership in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. We wish him only the very best."
Oseth was surprised by the news.
"I was totally shocked, I had no idea that was coming," he told the Times. "Recruiting was going well, things were moving forward. I'm really proud of the things we have done in my 19 years. Basically taking this program from a junior college. Without the injuries we had two good years but what can you do."
Oseth has served as the head men’s basketball coach for the Crookston campus since 2002, when he was selected—first as interim head coach and then as head coach. He served several seasons prior to that as an assistant coach and was a member of the U of M Crookston men’s basketball team from 1990-1992.
