  •     A Virginia, Minn. man was arrested Friday evening by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office near Fertile after a high-speed pursuit that began near Fisher and entered Red Lake County before returning to Polk County.
Early on in the chase, according to deputy Kris Larson, a woman who appeared to be in the vehicle against her will was able to exit the car.
Michael Allen Alderete Jr., 29, is in custody on charges of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, DWI and domestic assault.
It all started shortly before 6 p.m. Friday, when the PCSO received a 911 call reporting a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed east on U.S. Highway 2 near Fisher. The caller also reported that it appeared the driver was holding someone down in the back of the vehicle.
A deputy subsequently located the vehicle turning north onto 300th Ave. SW from Highway 2 and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. According to the PCSO, the vehicle sped up and fled as the female passenger inside waved for help. The vehicle then stopped on 300th Ave. SW near 230th St. SW and the female exited before the male occupant fled again, heading northbound on 300th Ave. SW. The deputy helped the passenger until ambulances arrived.
A short time later, a Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputy located the vehicle and pursued it south from Red Lake County back into Polk County, where Polk County deputies took up their pursuit. It ended with no injuries just north of Fertile on Minnesota Highway 32, and Alderete was taken into custody.
        The investigation continues.
