  • Kermit “Kurt” Brickson, 91, of Fisher, MN died Monday, January 20, 2014 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
    Kurt was born on September 14, 1922 to the late Bernt and Clara (Grani) Brickson in Lake Park, MN.  He grew up in the Ogema/Lake Park area of Minnesota graduating from Lake Park High School in 1940.  From there he attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND and worked at Watford City Bank before enlisting in the US Army Air Corps serving in the European Theater in WWII.  On June 8, 1948 he was married to Phyllis Logan in Fisher, MN.  He worked at the Grand Forks Hatchery for a time before moving to Fisher in 1952 and working for Fisher Elevator for 40 years until his retirement in 1992.  In 1993 he began working at Hugo’s in East Grand Forks and remained there for 18 years until 2012 where everyone knew him as the Candy Man.  In addition to his work, Kurt was active in his community by being the Fire Chief in Fisher, MN for more than 35 years, and was a Commander and Chaplain in the Fisher Legion and Honor Guard.  He was an upstanding member of the community of Fisher and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.  To know him was to love him.
    Kurt is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis of Fisher, children Mark (Kathy) Brickson of East Grand Forks, MN; Deborah (Dale) Jendro of Fargo, ND; and Patrick (Laura) Brickson of Thief River Falls, MN; 9 grandchildren, Ben Brickson (Kayla Parker), Molly (John) Williams, Zachary, Nicholas and Joseph Jendro and Andrea Anderson, Hannah, Grace and Eleanor Brickson, 7 great-grandchildren, sisters Vivian Brickson and sister in law Arthrelda Brickson of Detroit Lakes, MN and Agnes Johnson of Pelican Rapids, MN as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Predeceasing Kurt are his parents, brothers Ernie, Arvid, and Clifton Brickson, and sisters Beatrice Cruzan and Margaret Nelson.
    Military Honors will be presented by the Fisher American Legion after the mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
    Mass of Christian Burial:     11:30 am Friday, January 24, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 200 3rd St. NW, East Grand Forks, MN.
    Visitation:  5:00 to 7:00 with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service, Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also one hour prior Funeral Service on Friday.
    Interment:  Greenwood Cemetery, Fisher, MN in the spring.
