Four people injured in a fatal apartment explosion and fire in Minneapolis remain hospitalized.
Three survivors of the New Year's Day fire in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood are at the Hennepin County Medical Center. Two remain in critical condition and a third is satisfactory.
A fourth victim, Ali Jama, is in fair condition at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview. The 41-year-old truck driver broke both legs and several ribs when he jumped from a second-floor window to escape the fire. He told Minnesota Public Radio that he prayed, but he thought he could die.
The bodies of two men were recovered from the rubble. A third man later died of his injuries.
The cause of the fire that destroyed the Otanga grocery and displaced residents from the apartment above remains under investigation.
