Warroad scored seven unanswered goals Saturday.
Warroad scored seven unanswered goals Saturday to beat Crookston 10-3 in Warroad, Minn. Warroad's Jared Bethune, who recently committed to University of Minnesota Duluth along with teammate Kobe Roth, scored three straight goals in the third period. Roth also had a hat trick in the game.
Roth started the scoring at the 2:18 mark of the first period, but the Pirates answered about a minute later when junior Chandler St. Michel scored his sixth of the season from senior Brady Heppner and junior Tanner Geatz. About a minute later Warroad's Nick Jaycox scored for a 2-1 lead. The Pirates would tie it up before the break, though, with Geatz scoring his first of the season on a power play with 6:29 left from Heppner and senior Kal Salentiny.
Jaycox got a power-play goal at the 1:21 mark of the second period, but Crookston responded again when sophomore Harrison Bjorgo scored on a power play, his fourth of the season, from fellow sophomores Doug Larson and Bobby Tiedemann.
It was all Warroad from that point on though. Baihly Hontvet scored the eventual game-winning goal with 7:07 left in the second period. Kyle Sylvester (1:39) and Roth (:30) made it 6-3 after the second period.
In the third period, Roth (16:39) and Bethune (11:31, 10:56, 4:00) each scored to close out the game.
Pirate sophomore Adam Huglen recorded 23 saves before being relieved in the third period by sophomore Ian Johnson, who had two saves. Alex Burke had 15 saves in net for Warroad.
Crookston drops to 4-9-2 on the season and 1-4-1 against Section 8A teams. It will host Fargo South/Shanley Monday with the opening faceoff set for 7:30 p.m.
