  • Warroad defeated Crookston girls' hockey 9-0 in Warroad, Minn. Tuesday. Demi Gardner scored two goals and added three assists, while her sister, Mariah Gardner scored also had two goals and an assist. Katie Johnston also posted two goals for the Warriors.
    Pirate freshman goalie Lexie Cormican recorded 44 saves in the game, including 18 in the second period. Warroad's Dani Knott had five saves in goal.
    Warroad held a 3-0 lead after the first period on goals from Mariah Gardner at the 7:23 mark, Kimmy Schaible at 8:17 and Demi Gardner at 12:53.
    Demi Gardner scored at 8:21 of the second period and Johnston made it 5-0 with a goal at 11:18.
    The Warriors added four more in the third period from Sara Baumann at :45, Johnston at 1:43, Lynn Astup at 5:08 and Mariah Gardner at 6:12.
    Crookston drops to 5-10-1 on the season and 1-4-1 against Section 8A opponents. The Pirates will travel to Hibbing, Minn. Friday to face Hibbing/Chisholm then on to International Falls Saturday to face the Broncos.
